Hi Elizabeth and Justin, when do you plan to move this into PLANNED? Do you have an ETA for this?

this is very important for us.
We'd like to have a result like this -->
Justin O'Hara
tubics accounts: Thanks for the screenshot! This is one of the most up voted feature request on our forum. We are going to make this a priority.

Justin O'Hara: that's great to hear Justin :-).

Add relative rank between results
Max Allen
Show the relative rank of each result compared to all others in the main column. Ex: when organic results, map, images, etc result groups are intermingled, give each of the results a rank relative to the whole main column, not just within the group. Or just give a ranking for each of the result group types (ie. map 1, ads 2, organic results 3, image results 4, related searches 5).

Max Allen, seems like this feature request is the duplicate of Support Global Position for all search elements on Google Search. What do you think?
Max Allen
Illia Zub: Yes, thank you :)
Elizabeth Oster
Max Allen: Hi Max, I'll go ahead and merge this thread into that one so you can be sure to get notified when we add this feature.

This is a critical component for our work. Please prioritize!

Elizabeth Oster This would also be a major help for our use case as well.

this is great feature. Right now we get different nodes for organic, top stories, videos, related searches, etc. Would love to keep it this way. But would love to have serp_position where we can know where this feature come in html.
for example top stories may come first, in the middle or at the bottom
some absolute serp position for each link or each node would be great

JS: We generally avoid doing anything that would fundamentally change how the JSON is structured and this would be no exception.
Currently, our idea is to have a
global_position
selector for each result that has its numerical page order. So the top_stories
might come before the organic_results
in the JSON, but it would have a global_position
of 6
or something. It could also be that the 3rd organic_result
has a global_position
of 4
despite being the 3rd organic_result
. This is most similar to how we do block_position
for the ad results currently. We're still exploring different ways to implement something like this so any suggestions are appreciated.

Elizabeth Oster: please don't forget google uses horizontal and vertical layouts for various content blocks (notably videos, but also other elements), so a one dimensional global_position for each item may not be enough, as mentioned, I would like to know the page position of each - perhaps even an x,y, actual layout px position for each item would be useful - and then also an indication if it is a horizontal or vertical layout for the block (as horizontal layouts are effectively the same "position" for SEO)

Elizabeth Oster: we would also love to see this, mainly for where in the google results page videos appear as google dynamically shifts them up and down. For our SEO use case what is important is how close to the top left an item is, assuming the result items are ordered, then in addition to "global" position for the sections, we would also like to know if the section was a vertical or horizontal layout (as google switches them around sometimes)
